The Concert Choir of Laura Secord Secondary School from St. Catharines, Ontario, joins Robert Pilon and Symphony on the Bay for our May 14 concert. The school Music Department promotes student talent and fosters extra-curricular involvement with the production of professional-calibre musicals, choirs, orchestras and bands. Membership in Laura Secord’s Concert Choir is open to all students and the Choir is a wonderful mix of athletes, artists, and instrumentalists joining together in song. This award-winning choir has a busy roster every year with many invitations to perform and compete outside of the school. Over the years, their annual music trips have taken them around North America, England, France, and Italy with a special performance in Venice for Mass at St. Mark’s Basilica. They have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support World Vision’s child sponsorship through their ongoing “Sing Across the World” project. The choir has been fortunate to work with many professional musicians including country music legend Kenny Rogers, Take6, Molly Johnson, Jackie Richardson, Lorraine Segato, Michael Kaeshammer, James Bryan, Robert Pilon, Classic Albums Live, The Niagara Symphony, and legendary choral conductor and composer John Rutter. They have accompanied World Figure Skating Champion Patrick Chan, performed in Chicago at the legendary San Fillippo Place de la Musique, and with electropop singing sensation “Lights” in front of 65,000 fans and millions of viewers for ET Canada’s New Year’s Eve live national television broadcast. Special performances include concerts for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and the Nelson Mandela Family. Many of these talented young musicians also sing or play in other ensembles, at school and in the community.

The Laura Secord Secondary School Concert Choir is directed by Mr. David Sisler, recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2007.
