Erin Merkley is a thirteen-year-old violinist with a love and passion for music. Starting at a very young age, Erin discovered the joy of the playing the violin. Growing up with a supportive musical family, Erin continued to flourish and develop her talents.
At the age of four, Erin started studying with Jane Plewman, a Suzuki trained violin teacher. She is currently taking private violin lessons with Corey Gemmell and has been studying with him since May of 2016.
Erin has performed as a soloist and in ensembles such as annual holiday concerts, Durham community events, and year-end recitals with her Suzuki teacher. She participated in Music Festivals and was a finalist at the Pickering Rotary Music Festival and was featured in the Uxbridge Rising Stars Concert in 2016. As well, Erin played in the Ontario Strings Association Youth Orchestra, an auditioned string orchestra, for two years. She has played in the Symphonic Orchestra at National Music Camp since the summer of 2011 and has been Concertmaster and Concertmaster Assistant for the past three years
Erin will be playing the Violin Concerto in G major, Hob.VIIa:4, I. Allegro Moderato, by Franz Joseph Haydn at our “From Rags to Riches” concert on Sunday, May 13, 2018.
